  • 1/2 cup toor dal
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Lemon juice
  • Fresh mint

Method

    Cook dal with turmeric until very soft.

    Saute onion, garlic and ginger in butter until soft.

  3. 3

    Add tomato and cook until pulpy.

  4. 4

    Blend everything smooth and strain through a sieve.

  5. 5

    Season with cumin, pepper, salt and a squeeze of lemon.

    Serve hot in bowls, garnished with fresh mint leaves.
